Watered down, sweetened up Americana is the dominant ingredient in Daniel O’Donnell’s output as a country‘n’Irish crooner. In his more palatable guise as a travel show co-presenter, however, he favours an earthier and more piquant tone, thanks in no small part to the salty accompaniment of his merrily acerbic wife, Majella. As travelling companions, the couple make for a refreshingly spicy combo, their often sharp commentary and droll observations providing stark contrast to the syrupy pap with which O’Donnell is usually associated.
