New Delhi: The tourism industry is growing in India as more and more Indians are travelling going on trips within the country and abroad. As per a recent Bain and Company report, Indian travellers went on approximately 2 billion domestic and international trips in 2018. While most trips are either business or leisure trips, many people nowadays also go on adventure trips.

In fact, a survey recently showed that adventure tourism and activity travel market is estimated to grow at a rate of 17.4% from 2017 to 2023 in India. The study also revealed that adventure travel is more popular among people below the age of 35. Up until recently, travel insurance plans or personal accident plans which covered adventure sports as part of the policy were unheard of. However, with more and more Indians showing interest in adventure sports, several insurers now considering such products. 

Most insurers do not cover adventures activities including bungee jumping, paragliding, mountain climbing, racing, etc under travel insurance. Standard travel insurance only covers unwanted situations like flight delays, loss of documents, accidents etc.

Worth mentioning here is that a survey revealed that there has been a 42% increase in the popularity of high altitude regions among adventure travellers over the last three years.
