Kota Kinabalu: Participants of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata) Adventure Travel Conference and Mart (ATCM) from over 30 countries will experience the major adventure travel destinations in Sabah.Tourism Malaysia Director-General Datuk Musa Yusof said the programme is to enable them to learn about the tourist attractions in Sabah like Sipadan Island, Danum Valley, Maliau Basin, Madai Cave and so on, so that they can help promote them back in their own countries.
“We provide three to four choices of destinations for them to visit. So after their visit, they can bring the experiences back to their own countries and share with their people,” he told reporters after launching the Mart programme, here, Friday.
The event is part of the activities organised in conjunction with the Pata event held here. The day before they attended a conference.
Musa said the programme brought 36 international media representatives from 11 countries not only to provide coverage for the event but also to help tell the actual situation in Malaysia.
“Today (Friday) we held this adventure travel mart for the buyers and sellers to meet and discuss, and also seal contracts related to the available adventure travel destinations.
“We have participants from 33 countries for this mart, mostly from Europe, and from Asean and Asian countries. Altogether there are 54 buyers and 44 sellers of adventure travel destinations involved,” he said.
He said the buyers came from various countries to see like, for example in Sabah, Sarawak and so on what are the adventure travel packages that they can buy, meaning when they buy it they will place it (the adventure travel destination) in their respective catalogue to sell to their clients.
“The sellers are mostly from Malaysia and also from other Asean countries,” he said, adding the contract to be signed between the buyers and sellers would valid for one year.
