Whether it’s breathing in the crisp countryside air, embracing idyllic views or sitting by a crackling fire with a cup of coffee, going on a farmhouse retreat does wonders for our mental and physical health.

It comes as no surprise, then, that ‘agritourism’ has been hailed as one of 2020’s top travel wellbeing trends for the months ahead. According to research conducted by Pinterest, there has been a 57% surge in agritourism, with pinners heading to the social media site for inspiration around farm-based trips.

Combining tourism with agriculture, agritourism is a hands-on way for people to embrace farm life as part of a different kind of holiday. While many of us would once flock to buzzy cities for a break, Brits are now swapping glossy trips for get-stuck-in adventures instead.

And brilliantly, the idea has also been backed by health experts. Research published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology found that being regularly exposed to natural environments helps to restore mental energy, while also giving us a much-needed brain boost.

Elsewhere in Pinterest’s report, they have also seen an increase in people on the hunt for a social-media detox, as well as solo travel ideas. Pinterest also found that pinners have been looking for ideas around countryside-inspired interiors, such as barns and cabin makeovers.
